Angers. Rachmaninov Concert: Romantic, Organic and Virtuoso

Although it is facing a lot of competition at the end of the season – the Euro football championship, the Anjou Festival and the presentation of the season at Quai CDN-Cndc on Tuesday 25 June alone – the Printemps des Orgues still manages to attract loyal visitors (600 in this case).

This is because it is often an event: for its season finale, it brought together two masters of the keyboard for a world creation, namely the transcription for organ and piano of the diabolical “Piano Concerto No. 3” by Sergei Rachmaninov by organist Hansjörg Albrecht. An event therefore, which will have attracted the cameras of the Qwest TV platform, present with eight cameras.

The dialogue between the piano and the hybrid organ, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, allows the Russian composer’s romanticism to deploy all its dimensions, from the most contemplative to the most disheveled, from the most tender to the most martial, from the most soothing to the most heartbreaking.

But if we had to keep an image of this meeting that is both demanding and unifying, it is the aura of the pianist Dmitry Masleev. The 2015 winner of the very prestigious Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition played four solo works and therefore this creation without any score, without showing any emotion (this autistic side is both fascinating and frightening) while making the stormy and tender notes of Rachmaninov ring out and palpitate. It is a real luxury to see such a musician play in his city.

Printemps des Orgues is already planning its 2024-2025 season, which will open on October 12 with the Les Égarés au Quai project (www.printempsdesorgues.fr).
