Unemployment insurance reform: the decree will ultimately not be published before July 1: News

The decree governing the unemployment insurance reform was to be published before July 1. But, in an unprecedented situation, the Ministry of Labor has changed its mind: it will be a few days late, report several media outlets including Le Figaro and BFM Business.

The unemployment insurance reform is still not going smoothly. The decree governing this reform will not, in the end, be published before the fateful date of June 30, as the Ministry of Labor had nevertheless wished. It will therefore appear at the beginning of July, between the two rounds of the legislative elections, as reported on Friday, June 28, by several media outlets including Le Figaro and BFM Business.

He will therefore be a few days late, an unprecedented situation, which does not fail to underline the daily routine. And this, even though Gabriel Attal had promised, on June 13, that it would appear by July 1.

A setback, in the middle of an election, which worries people benefiting from unemployment insurance as well as France Travail, in charge of these compensations. The current rules governing unemployment insurance are only valid until June 30, so a new decree is necessary to extend them. Indeed, there was talk of a risk for unemployment beneficiaries that compensation would not be paid to them because of this delay.

A tightening planned for entry into force in December

But the Ministry of Labor wants to be reassuring: “The decree will be issued in the next few days to ensure that the unemployed continue to receive benefits”, but “not Saturday-Sunday, that’s for sure”, the ministry was quoted as saying by Le Figaro.

The decree on the reform of unemployment insurance should not come into force before December 1st in order to wait for an economic climate more favorable to job creation. This reform provides for a tightening of the conditions to be met to receive an allowance (eight months worked out of the last 20 months will now be necessary), as well as the reduction of the maximum duration of coverage from 18 to 15 months.
