Just like last year, the University of New Brunswick (UNB), Irving Oil and Medavie are among the top 100 employers in the country.
The publisher of employment periodicals Mediacorp Canada has unveiled its 25th annual rankings, a competition that pays tribute to employers with human resources programs described as exceptional and so-called progressive employment policies.
Mediacorp editors rate employers based on eight specific criteria that have remained unchanged since the first publication in 1999.
These criteria are workplace, working atmosphere and social life, health benefits, financial and family matters, vacations and leave, communication with employees, management of employees’ work performance, training and skills development and, ultimately, participation in community life.
UNB, Irving Oil and Medavie are the only New Brunswick employers to appear in the list, which is however not numbered.
The training and skills development, as well as the work environment, have greatly enabled UNB to appear in the rankings.
At Irving Oil, it was the company’s and employees’ involvement in the community that garnered attention. Last year, 1,955 volunteer hours were completed during work hours and 455 community organizations were supported by the company.
At Medavie, community involvement was also emphasized. Last year, she donated more than $6 million to hundreds of organizations across Canada.
