HAS a few days before the resumption, scheduled for Monday July 1, Pau FC continues its adjustments in Nicolas Usaï’s staff. According to our information, his assistant Stéphane Lièvre, who arrived at the club at the end of last September, is not expected to continue the adventure under the Nouste Camp gatehouse. Still according to our sources, he could be replaced by Thibault Giresse, seen in Pau in recent hours. The son of the legend of the Girondins de Bordeaux, Alain Giresse, was until now deputy at Nîmes Olympique, of Frédéric Bompard then of Adil Hermach; before seeing his contract expire this summer.

Nîmes Olympique from which Benoît Duval’s replacement could also arrive for the position of goalkeeper coach. Indeed, as we revealed on June 18, Anthony Babikian, who has already worked with Nicolas Usaï during his visit to Gard in 2022, would hold the rope.

As for the workforce, if the arrival of midfielder Antoine Mille, from Berrichonne de Châteauroux, is the only one to have been made official by Pau FC for the moment, the Pau leaders have announced good news to their supporters Wednesday evening with the extension, for two seasons, of central defender Jean Ruiz. However, a departure was almost complete in recent weeks since the two parties initially failed to reach an agreement. But the Pau leaders managed to reverse the trend with a new proposal, despite fierce competition, particularly from Germany. Jean Ruiz, who had expressed his real desire to continue his career in Béarn after two successful seasons (71 matches played out of 76 possible), also preferred to extend with Pau FC despite other more important offers in terms of financial abroad.

Other announcements could be made regarding arrivals in the days to come. Midfielder Youssouf M’Changama (Troyes) and full-back Yohann Bilingi (Dunkirk) are particularly targeted by the Pau staff.

Record

In terms of departures, Pau FC concluded a record sale for the club by selling Moussa Sylla to Schalke 04, in the German second division, for an amount estimated between 2 and 2.5 million euros excluding bonuses. Loaned by Stade Malherbe de Caen, the Malian striker, author of 15 goals and 7 assists last season, quickly convinced the Pau leaders to activate the purchase option (€300,000). Pau FC will, however, have to pay around €500,000 more to the Norman club which had negotiated a percentage on resale (20%). This does not prevent the Béarnais from achieving a record sale in their history.
