Christine Engrand suspended from her parliamentary group after using mandate fees for personal purposes

The office of the National Rally (RN) group at the National Assembly announced, Tuesday, November 19, to suspend for six months the membership of the Pas-de- MP Christine Engrand, pinned down in September by Mediapart for the use of money order fees for personal purposes. “This temporary exclusion of course takes into account the fact that the non-regulatory expenses mentioned in recent weeks in the press have been reimbursed to the National Assembly”it is specified in a press release.

In addition, the office “will contact the national investiture commission of the RN so that it can rule unfavorably on a future investiture” by Mme Engrand, according to the same source. In September, the MP was questioned by two articles. The first, from the site Mediapartrevealed that she had used her mandate fees for personal purposes; of the “clumsiness” since reimbursed, she then argued.

According to Mediapartthe MP had dipped into her parliamentary envelope to pay for the boarding of her two dogs. Other expenses also included a subscription to a dating site for 39.99 euros per month and funeral costs of 5,971.94 euros, according to the same media. Mediapart believes that “the disputed transactions exceed 10,000 euros of public money”.

The second article, from the newspaper The Parisianexplained that the elected official had had a vehicle confiscated with a technical inspection defect, which she was driving with an invalid license. A “administrative error” the MP, quoted in the article, then pleaded. In 2022, Mme Engrand had won the sixth constituency of Pas-de-Calais from the outgoing Brigitte Bourguignon, then minister of health. This year, she was re-elected in the first round.
