Ce Monday November 18, 2024Pierre-François Lejeune, assistant for commercial development, and Odile Lefaix-Véron, assistant for events and community life, revealed thehe program of end-of-year festivities in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche). And this year, Christmas celebrations will be associated with the mountain theme.
The return of the Christmas market to Place de Gaulle
The festivities will begin on Friday December 6at 6 p.m., with the lighting of the city by Benoît Arrivé, mayor of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, from Place de la République. Following this inauguration, a great wandering will take place from Place de la République to Place de-Gaulle.
“The public will be invited to follow Remue-Ménage, who will present his spectacle Street reviewfull of life and elegance,” explains Pierre-François Lejeune. On the program, dazzling characters, dancers, tightrope walkers and stilt walkers, with numerous references to cabarets of the 1920s.
The same day, the Christmas markethe will make his grand return to Place de-Gaulle, with a few novelties. “There will be around twenty chalets for around thirty traders in total, some present only during a specific period of the market,” explains Odile Lefaix-Véron. This is a way to involve more traders and renew every week part of the market. »
Emphasis will be placed on strong participation of local artisans and local producers. This market will be open every day from December 6 to 28from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (8 p.m. Saturday). It will be closed on December 25. As for businesses, they will be authorized to open on Sundays December 8, 15 and 22.
Shows in all towns
“We wanted this annual meeting, very popular with Cherbourg residents, but also by residents of the entire department, to be a big party throughout the city. For this, there will be shows in the delegated municipalities,” announce the two city councilors.
The municipality also wanted to work together with the city's associations and structures, which will provide even more entertainment throughout the month of December.

From December 6 to 28 on Place de Gaulle: Christmas market with chalets, relaxation area, “Forest of Wishes”, mailbox for Santa Claus, creative and makeup workshops, concert at the Music Conservatory…
December 6 at 6 p.m.: launch of the illuminations at Place de la République, followed by a stroll by the Revue de rue from Place de la République to Place de-Gaulle.
Every Saturday: strolls on Place de-Gaulle and in the pedestrian streets.
Saturday December 7 at 5:30 p.m.: gift mission.
Saturday, December 14 at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.: “Féerie” show.
Saturday December 21 at 6 p.m.: “Tornado” show.

Saturday December 7 at 6 p.m.: “Anima” show on the square in front of the Querqueville delegated town hall.
Wednesday December 11 at 6 p.m.: “Mechanism” show at Place Mandela in Équeurdreville-Hainneville.
Saturday December 14 at 6 p.m.: “Supershow” show on the square in front of Tourlaville town hall.
Sunday, December 15 at 11:30 a.m.: “Féerie” show on the Marché des Provinces in Octeville.
Wednesday, December 18 at 6 p.m.: “Dharma” show on the square in front of the Théâtre des Miroirs at La Glacerie.

From December 6 to January 5: ice rink on Place Jacques-Hébert offered by the Les Éléis shopping center.
On the practical side, several parking bans and traffic restrictions will be set up in the streets adjacent to the demonstrations. In addition, the Tuesday markets will be moved to the theater square, while those on Thursdays and Saturdays will be relocated to Place Centrale and rue Gambetta.
