Night of anger in Haute-Garonne, less than a year after the winter agricultural revolt which started from Carbonne, south of Toulouse with the blocking of the A64 motorway. Monday evening, at the call of the FDSEA Haute-Garonne and the Young Farmers (JA), several gatherings took place to voice the despair of farmers and their refusal of the trade agreement with Mercosur, currently under discussion in the framework of the G20. In Saint-Gaudens, Cornebarrieu, Lanta, Fronton and Verfeil, several dozen farmers set fire to bales of straw or cardboard boxes on roundabouts.
“The objective is not to block traffic, for the moment, but to show our anger at not making a living from our profession,” indicates the FDSEA Haute-Garonne. Fires were lit but always with respect for property and people. » The Haute-Garonne firefighters, however, intervened around 9:30 p.m. to contain several straw bale and pallet fires on three different roundabouts near the A64 and A61 motorways.
According to agricultural union organizations, nearly 80% of the cantons of Haute-Garonne experienced mobilizations Monday evening. The agricultural protest continued this Tuesday with the Rural Coordination convoy which planned to mobilize hundreds of farmers on the roads, with the instructions “no overflow, no damage and not to disturb our fellow citizens”. The procession was due to converge on the prefecture in Toulouse around 10 a.m., causing traffic jams in the center of the Pink City.
