Discussions focused on proposed changes to WFP’s evaluation policies and country strategic plans.

Humanitarian organization: The second annual session of the Executive Board of the World Food Program (WFP) opened Monday in Rome, under the chairmanship of the Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rome, Youssef Balla.

Focused on updates on WFP’s institutional and operational priorities, this session was attended by WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain, who presented WFP highlights and the latest developments regarding organizational reforms.
She also highlighted the need to mobilize financial resources for anticipatory initiatives aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate shocks and recurring humanitarian crises around the world.
Ms. McCain also briefed the Board on the situation in WFP’s highest priority operations, including Gaza, Sudan, Sahel, Haiti, Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ukraine, further addressing the challenges posed by complex political environments and the need to strengthen partnerships with other UN entities and governments.
The session was marked by the presence of two guests of honor, namely Martin Griffiths, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, and James Mwangi, Managing Director of Equity Group Holdings, a bank specializing in services in Kenya and other African countries. The annual session, held from 24 to 28 June 2024, includes side events and exhibitions, as well as a review of WFP’s 2024-2025 biennial work program. Discussions focused on proposed changes to WFP’s evaluation policies and country strategic plans. The first session of the Executive Council under the Moroccan presidency was held in February 2024, after the election of Morocco as President of the Council.
WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, providing food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
