Philippe Cochet (LR) takes legal action

Philippe Cochet, mayor (LR) of Caluire-et-Cuire, acting as president of the right-wing group in the metropolitan council of Lyon, announced, by press release, this Tuesday, June 25, that he had contacted the Public Prosecutor regarding “the relations between La Gonette and two elected officials, members of the executive of the Metropolis concerning a real estate rental” which “could be criminal offenses”.

Without mentioning them, the elected official targets Bruno Bernard, the environmentalist boss of the Metropolis and its first vice-president Émeline Baume. In an article published on June 13, 2024, Progress revealed that the two elected officials held, until mid-April 2021, before selling them to their party, shares in a real estate company (SCI) La Pierre Écolo, itself the owner of premises located on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse in Lyon (1st).

Illegal taking of interests?

However, this premises has been rented since 2014 to the La Gonette association which distributes and manages this local currency. Problem: Émeline Baume voted, at the Métropole council, in 2019, for a subsidy for the association while she was still the owner of the premises via the SCI, which could constitute an illegal taking of interests.

It remains to be seen what the Lyon Public Prosecutor’s Office will do.
