Over Limalonges, this Sunday, there was an air of celebration. An anniversary, like every November 17, that of the start of the yellow vest movement. Six years after their first meeting on this roundabout, some have met again, and if the carbon tax seems far away, their fight on economic inequalities is still relevant today.

It is a symbolic return to the roundabout which brought them together six years ago. A group of around fifteen people are still fighting against economic inequalities today.

“For the honor of workers and for a better world, even if Macron doesn’t want it, we are here,” they hum in chorus.

If the atmosphere is so pleasant, it is because they know each other well. They have been united since the first mobilization.

“If it hadn't been for these yellow vests in 2018, I would not have today these values of solidarity, friendship, explains Chantal. Today, if things are going to change, it won't be thanks to the yellow vests, I think, it will come from the citizens.”

Those mobilized today are, for the most part, retirees. The demands, demonstrations, blocking actions of the time have given way to weekly meetings to share the same logical misunderstandings.

In a country like France, I cannot understand how we can admit that there are 10 millions of poor people, regrets one of them. I don't understand why our leaders didn't anticipate things for us old people. I was born in 44, I am part of the baby boom. Didn't they understand that one day we would become old? Is it the private sector who must be making money off of us? No, it's up to the State to take care of us old people. We gave everything for years”.

Many of these retirees are now involved in community life and will not give up their yellow vests, given the current political context.
