During the night of November 16 to 17, tags appeared on the gendarmerie under construction in Bubry. The mayor filed a complaint.
On the night of November 16 to 17, 2024, inscriptions were discovered on the facade of the future Bubry gendarmerie, still under construction. The messages painted in red and black included slogans like “ACAB” (meaning “All Cops Are Bastards”), “We don't want cops” and a twisted version: “All Cats Are Beautiful.”
A recently renovated degraded facade
The gendarmerie, whose work is in progress, had recently received a new coat of exterior paint. This building must be operational from the beginning of 2025.
“It’s heartbreaking. It’s a building that we have just redeveloped and it is already degraded,” declared Roger Thomazo, mayor of Bubry, deeply disappointed by this act of vandalism.
A complaint filed
Faced with this damage, the mayor filed a complaint with the competent authorities. A rapid intervention by municipal technical services made it possible to erase the tags during the day of Sunday, November 17, thus limiting the visual impact of the act.
A sensitive context
This act of vandalism occurs while the building, supposed to strengthen local security, is still under construction. This type of incident recalls the persistent tensions between certain groups and the police.
The mayor hopes that the complaint will make it possible to identify and punish the perpetrators, while raising public awareness of the importance of respecting public property. The establishment of this gendarmerie will, according to local authorities, strengthen the security and serenity of the inhabitants of Bubry.
