After a hectic first week of racing, 39 competitors are still there in the 10th Vendée Globe. Only Maxime Sorel gave up. Everyone else had their share of problems. Starting with Thomas Ruyant, who had to plug a leak on the Vulnerable bridge. The has fallen significantly in the rankings. But the differences are small and this delay is nothing to worry about. Today, Thomas has morale of steel as revealed by his last contacts with the earth.

Already on Friday, the northern sailor sent a nice video, where he talked about his breakfast and the return of more comfortable weather conditions.

This Sunday morning, Ruyant carried out a radio session with the race headquarters. He announced the repair of his minor damage. Clearly, we felt that everything was going well aboard his foiler and that he could get back into the race with his morale now in good shape, after this first week in the Vendée Globe.

« Here on board everything is running smoothly. We just had a beautiful day, a beautiful night. It's nice to find a little wind after a fairly long period of calm. Even if there were quite a few gybes. It was still tiring in the end… The damage is behind me, it wasn't too complicated to repair. Otherwise, I eat well. I sleep well at night. Everything is fine “

On its weather option, Thomas Ruyant also seemed satisfied. “ Finally, being in the North, North-West of the fleet was not bad. This made it possible to recover the wind a little earlier, to get out of the windless zone a little faster. The game continues, it’s going to be fun!«

A great comeback for Thomas Ruyant

This 7th night at sea was also marked by the damage that occurred on board Valley Office. Louis Burton has in fact announced that it will have to deal with cracks on the deck of its IMOCA. At the same time, the western partisans accelerate (15 to 20 knots) while those from the east then fall into a persistent windless zone (5 to 6 knots). Among them, the indestructible Jean Le Cam (It all starts in Finistère – Armor-lux) holds on as leader even if the gap continues to narrow in the ranking.

After falling to 30th place, Ruyant made a nice comeback in the rankings. At 7 a.m. this Sunday morning, the Dunkirk was in 16th position, 148 nautical miles from “King Jean”. A new race will therefore begin at the dawn of this 2nd week of the 2024-2025 Vendée Globe.
