The tourism sector began the summer period of 2024 with a record number of tourist arrivals, for the month of May alone. In total, Morocco recorded 1.3 million arrivals, an increase of 18.2% year-on-year. “This performance is mainly due to the growth in the number of foreign tourist arrivals of 21.8% and which represents 57.6% of the total number of arrivals”underlines the DEPF in its latest economic report for the month of June.

Arrivals of Moroccans living abroad (MRE) also increased by 13.7% in May 2024. In total, the number of arrivals reached more than 5.9 million tourists during the first five months. of the year, a record for this period. This figure is growing by 15% year-on-year. The number of foreign tourist arrivals, which represent 56.4% of all arrivals, increased by 16.8% during this same period. That of MREs also strengthened, recording an increase of 12.7%.

As for nights spent in classified accommodation establishments, their volume increased by 6.8% at the end of April 2024, linked to an increase in nights of non-residents of 11%, after an improvement in 2.9% a month earlier. This performance is due, in particular, to the significant increase in overnight stays (+17.2%) recorded during the month of April.

Finally, tourism receipts strengthened in April 2024 (+13.6%), but they showed a slight decline at the end of the first four months of the year (-0.9%), thus approaching 31.9 billion DH. Compared to their pre-crisis level (end of April 2019), these revenues have, however, improved by 38.9%.
