LAYER JAZZ 2024: discover the complete program for the 37th edition

Impressions, such is Robin McKelle’s choice to complete her musical journey into the world of the First Lady of jazz. An arduous task as Ella Fitzgerald’s repertoire abounds with themes; especially since the singer wanted to offer a recital that was both personal and faithful, which was a tribute to jazz.

Jazz: how many doors this simple word has opened over the past century, embracing other music and attracting artists from all continents.
The group with which the Indian musician Trilok Gurtu will perform is in this image. Does he play jazz, does he play world music? We’re not going to hunt around. What is certain is that drums and tablas, plus a whole array of objects, find an communicative eloquence in the hands of Trilok Gurtu.

As it evolved, the blues left its Bluesland and even spanned continents. He landed with Johnny Gallagher, a native of County Donegal, in the far northwest of Ireland.
In France, for more than ten years now, the singer has gained an audience and made friends with the Lanvins, father and son (the latter was at Couches in 2021).

45690687ca.jpgWhere do Christophe Monniot and Didier Ithursarry take us, mischievous duo, in their Hymns to Love? Especially since Jazzadugoût invites you to live differently than love and fresh water. It is in the same context that in 2021 another duo performed: Franck Tortiller and Misja Fitzgerald-Michel (Les Heures Propices 2021).

Maintaining his inclination for the genre, this year the vibraphonist opens the festival with saxophonist Alexandra Lehmler. The festival would not be itself if its Big Band was not there and if, moreover, every day, starting with the Off stage, it did not offer regional groups, young musicians and musicians, this essential (and sometimes first) link with the public.

NB. It’s a refrain, certainly, but a valuable one: wherever the festival is held, its volunteers are attentive to its audience.
