It’s 4:20 a.m. this Friday, June 21, in a lodge at the Vizzavona pass (Upper Corsica). The alarm goes off, even before the sun rises. Matthieu Stefani applies bandages to his blisters, his feet hardened by 14 hours of hiking on the GR20 roads the day before. On his phone, he discovers a message from the Élysée. Emmanuel Macron’s teams suggested that he come and question the head of state… the same day. “My parents, who live in Corsica, came to pick me up to take me to Ajaccio airport. It was a very strong emotional moment,” says the forty-year-old.

Find the candidates in your constituency and, on June 30 from 8 p.m., the results of the first round of the legislative elections at Paris, Lyon, Marseille and throughout France.

Filmed over two hours, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday evening, the interview will be posted online at 6 p.m. this Monday. It has been months since Matthieu Stefani proposed to the Élysée to have Emmanuel Macron “speak” on the microphone of his Génération Do It Yourself (GDIY) podcast. Monday June 17, having just arrived in Corsica, he received a first message letting him understand that “it could perhaps be done in the coming days”. “They understood the weight of the podcast. But I didn’t expect it too much in such a period,” he slips.

In GDIY, which “dissects the success of people who have taken the plunge”, in recent years nearly 400 business leaders, athletes, artists… The last three guests are the host Arthur, the director of the brand of luxury watches H. Moser & Cie, Édouard Meylan, and the boss of the Les Mousquetaires group, Thierry Cotillard. Macron recognizes “failures”

Until Emmanuel Macron, apart from Arnaud Montebourg and Cédric Villani, no political figure had spoken in Génération Do It Yourself. “I would like to have others,” slips Mathieu Stefani, who has notably approached François Ruffin, Édouard Philippe and Christine Lagarde. Without fear of “robbing” part of its audience, “curious”.

This Sunday, Matthieu Stefani boasted on his X account a “historic sequence of 1h45, with a man who has just dissolved the National Assembly”. “I gave everything to be up to the task, we swept away a lot of subjects,” he wrote. “He tells me in particular about the hard times of his presidency, recognizing failures, for example concerning education,” the podcaster tells us.

This presidential interview could open new doors for him, hopes the one who “dreams” of interviewing the boss of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, or even Zinédine Zidane: “Sometimes, I am told that it is impossible to have such and such a person. From now on, I will be able to retort that I did it with Emmanuel Macron. » . A few hours after recording, he left to finish his journey in Corsica. “I try to keep a cool head, and the GR20 helped me a lot. »
