This is the first exhibition at the Le Kiosque Contemporary Center for the 2024-2025 season. says Marion Le Monnier, exhibition coordinator. Franco-Canadian artist Julie C. Fortier, with her exhibition Captive colorstook possession of the Calvairiennes chapel in Mayenne, from Saturday November 16, 2024 until Sunday December 15.

This visual artist offers to discover five installations exploring the interactions between smell, color and texture. A graduate of the School of Visual and Media Arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal, Julie C. Fortier, explains: Our different senses can influence each other.

The artist born in 1973 has lived and worked in (Ille-et-Vilaine) since 2001. She trained as a perfumer 10 years ago. For her, smells carry stories and images. As a visual artist, she tries to find different ways to give shape to smells.

Olfactory works

Upon entering, the chapel alerts visitors' senses with five olfactory drawings on frames and a textile installation on silk wool. Also worth discovering: an installation with perfume, text, scented hand cream, gold powder, porcelain disc…

At the very bottom, there is a tufted wool carpet that allows you to roll around in the smells. On this mattress, we have two smells, that of the earth on one side and the smell of the sea on the other side. I took plants from the seaside and moss for the smell of the earth,” confides Julie C. Fortier.

From Saturday November 16 to Sunday December 15, 2024, at the Calvairiennes chapel, in Mayenne. Open Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Price: €3; reduced €2.
