The quantity of psychotropic substances seized on Saturday at the Tangier Med Port amounted to 188,102 “ecstasy” type tablets and narcotics, said the Tangier police headquarters.
Border control and search operations, carried out with the participation of the police dog brigade, initially made it possible to seize 155,703 “ecstasy” type tablets, hidden in specially designed cavities in the cabin of a truck coming from a European country, said the same source in a press release.
Continuing searches and investigations made it possible to seize additional shipments of psychotropic drugs carefully concealed in the vehicle’s engine cooling system, bringing the total of psychotropic substances seized to 188,102 tablets, added the same source, noting that the investigation also allowed the truck driver and his assistant, both of Moroccan nationality, to be arrested.
The two suspects, aged 41 and 44, were placed in police custody for the judicial investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to unravel the possible national and international ramifications of this case.
