Everyone at sport. This is the name given to the major sporting event organized by the City of Le Mans, on Saturday June 29, 2024, at the Marie-Marvingt stadium. The event, free and open to all, is the culmination of four days during which sport will be in the spotlight, including among schools. “Sport contributes to socialization, it is also the school of learning the rules and respecting them. But physical activity is also a public health issue,” recalls the mayor of Le Mans, Stéphane Le Foll.

Club showcase

This Saturday, all day long, the event also aims to showcase the many activities offered in the different sports clubs of Le Mans, which total “more than 40,000 licensees in the region”, figure Nordine Arik, sports assistant.

More than a hundred clubs and associations will be present on the various stands set up on the stadium square, to offer initiations and demonstrations. With a varied panel: squash, tennis, baseball, athletics, football, rugby, climbing, fencing, volleyball, boxing, martial arts… But also billiards, bridge, model aircraft, chess, darts…

A major sports-health conference

And even THE largest in France, the City boasts: “We are hoping for more than 2,000 people. » At 4 p.m., the stadium transforms into an open-air conference room to talk about sports and health. At the helm of what is announced as the highlight of the day, two faces well known to fans of the Health magazine broadcast on France 5. Dr Jimmy Mohamed, doctor and presenter of the show, accompanied by Nordine Attab, columnist and sports coach. Objective: to share with the public the right actions and good health reflexes.

Note that two other conferences around sport are also scheduled. One from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., on discrimination in sport. The other from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., on the fight against sexual violence, harassment and hazing in sporting and educational environments.

Godfathers and godmothers with a fine track record

This day dedicated to sport will also be an opportunity to meet two champions and a champion, who have agreed to sponsor the edition. Basketball player Sandrine Gruda, double Olympic medalist who plays for the French team. But also the karateka Steven Da Costa, Olympic champion and triple world champion. As well as the Olympic blind football vice-champion, Yvan Wouandji. The latter, also ambassador for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will also lead an introduction to his discipline from 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
