The city of Limoges and Limoges Métropole are undertaking several projects within the city during the summer. Where, how, why, and until when? Let’s take stock together.

Boulevards du Mas Bouyol and Vanteaux:

Limoges Métropole is developing a greenway along boulevards Vanteaux and Mas Bouyol, from the Oradour-sur-Glane crossroads to the Vanteaux campus.

Unlike a cycle path, a greenway is a development that provides a common circulation space for pedestrians and bicycles. This will extend over nearly 2 km. Limoges Métropole has chosen this type of route in order to offer a “pleasant and secure” space. This will be shaded with a width of 3 to 4 meters. A physical separation from the roadway will be created to guarantee the safety of pedestrian and cycle areas.

The project should be completed in the fall of 2024 and the total amount amounts to €951,000, subsidized by the State (25%), the Active Mobility Fund (15%) and the Loire Water Agency -Brittany (40%).

Rue Jean-Jaurès:

Rue Jean-Jaurès is under construction, with the creation of 24 planters which will run along it.

The work will normally be completed by mid-July. After archaeological excavations and the installation of the planters, all that remains is to put in the temporary and summer plantings. The final plants will be planted at the end of the year. Traders will be able to set up their terrace along the street. The aim of this project is to “make the city more attractive, thanks to pedestrianization and the creation of islands of freshness”.

The cost of the work amounts to 583,820 euros including tax, covered by the city of Limoges.

Rues de Beaupuy and des Frères Bonneff:

The street project consists of the significant dewaterproofing of coated surfaces and the management of part of the runoff water via a succession of vegetated valleys.

This project has several objectives: combating heat islands, working on integrated rainwater management as well as promoting biodiversity and nature in the city. The total cost of the project amounts to €910,000.

Avenue du Général Chambe:

Renovation of sidewalks and development of street furniture.

Limoges Métropole is carrying out sidewalk repair work on Avenue du Général Chambe until July 25, creating safety features and renovating public lighting.

The overall cost of this project, coordinated and financed by Limoges Métropole and the City of Limoges, is estimated at €490,000 (€60,000 City of Limoges + €430,000 Limoges Métropole).

Avenue Georges Pompidou:

Creation of a pedestrian crossing and road repairs. Limoges Métropole is redeveloping part of the avenue, after the Revolution Bridge, to secure the intersection and create a pedestrian crossing.

The season does not allow the City to recover the plants, which are too far advanced in the flowering season, which must therefore be uprooted. The construction site, which began on June 10, should be completed on July 31, 2024. Financed entirely by Limoges Métropole, the total cost of the work amounts to 498,000 euros.
