400 demonstrators against the RN… And those absent in Avignon

400 demonstrators against the RN… And those absent in Avignon

There was everything. Determination, citizen collectives (Attac, Human Rights League, Dare Feminism 84…), incisive slogans – “the elevator for the fascists“, “We smell the scam” -, messages of peace and, this time, feminist songs sung by “Rosies” in overalls (women’s rights was the subject of yesterday’s demonstration, Editor’s note). Nevertheless, the ranks remained scattered, rue de la République, yesterday, a few union flags were flying, without their departmental incarnations, either. is running a dissident candidacy for the Legislative elections, in the 1st constituency of Vaucluse, that of the unlabeled Philippe Pascal, Editor’s note).

We don’t even see the unions. The entire demonstration is vampirized by the NPA“, tackles an activist, while movements take the microphone, Place du Palais, to call for a vote against the extreme right.”We have the impression that we always put on the same record. Just being against it doesn’t accomplish anything. You have to be for the New Popular Front. That’s the message. That’s why we’re here.

From the outset, at the start of the procession, NFP candidate Raphaël Arnault spoke and called for “go for victory” at the polls, June 30. Booed by a left-wing demonstrator: “You are creating division!

“The risk is there”

Karine Malaval, Dare to Feminism 84 and the Nid movement activist, deplores the “parachuting” of the Lyon candidate. “We are witnessing a war of egos.” In the ranks, many are those who regret this double candidacy on the left and “the mess” sown in the minds. “It is the dissident who divides, not the parachuted”whispers another. “This is not the first time that someone has been parachuted in. We have to stop with localism.”

Claire, 50, remains hopeful and calls for us to see beyond June 30. She lives in Orange and “knows what the extreme right is.” “We do with the candidates we have. We need a majority of the NFP in Parliament.”

On the absence of traditional left-wing parties (PS, PCF, Greens, Génération.s…) in the procession, Philippe Jaffré, of the NPA, and support of Raphaël Arnault, dismisses the question: “It is not our doing. We launched an appeal, on June 13, at 2:42 p.m., to all organizations and collectives. This was before the ‘events’ on the applications. Are we is together, or are we dividing? The risk is there.”

Faced with the decline in mobilization – observable everywhere in France this Saturday – he prefers to invoke “interference” : the heat, the schedule, the blitzkrieg… There were around 400 this Saturday, one week before the first round – compared to 650, on June 12, and 1,500, on June 17, in the streets of Avignon .

Behind the confusion, the message remains. In this case, around women’s rights, yesterday: “If the RN passes, women are in danger. Its deputies voted against the inclusion of abortion in the Constitution”recalls Karine Malaval, drawing up this sad observation: “30% of women under 25 voted for Bardella. Because he campaigned on social networks… We must succeed in informing young people.”
