Thi Trang Do, a 40-year-old mother, was enjoying her morning with her son, Marcus Vu, and two others when a man entered the residence around 9 a.m.

A neighbor told the Canadian media that he heard around 15 gunshots in total. “My neighbor warned me that there were gunshots, and that I should stay inside,” he added. It was a shock and it was terrifying.”

The mother and her child unfortunately succumbed to their injuries, mentioned the Toronto Star.

The other two victims, who have not been identified by police, are now “stable.”

A 41-year-old suspect has been arrested, York police confirmed Saturday. Van Viet Duong was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Authorities said the individual knew his victims and that it was potentially a planned murder.

The mayor of Vaughan reacted to this tragedy on X: “Gun crimes are an abomination and I have had enough of criminals who have no regard for human life.”
