Lanester National Tournament

At only 16 years old, Éliott Lieutier held his place in the 8th Choc des badistes de Lanester. Seeded No. 1, the member of the Badminton Club Kemperle (BCK) disposed of No. 2 Axel Abdallah (Lanester) during a close semi-final (21-15/15-21/21-18), before to win in two sets in the final (21-13/21-16) against Yannig Gasc (Saint-Grégoire), who had nevertheless beaten him in the group. “This defeat stung him to the core. He was more concentrated and aggressive in the final, where he made a big difference at the net,” says Jérôme Aubert, who trains him over the weekend in Quimperlé with Quentin Tuaillon.

Originally from the island of Reunion, Éliott Lieutier has been sharing his weeks for two seasons between Quimperlé, where he stays with his uncle, and the Pôle Espoir in Dinard, which he joined last year. A change of life that does not disturb the high school student, who discovered badminton in UNSS and chose to come to mainland France to progress. “There are not enough tournaments in Reunion,” explains the young man, who now trains 16 hours a week in Brittany.

“Explosiveness” and “big mentality”

The results were not long in coming: in the space of a year, Éliott Lieutier went from D9 to N2. Now ranked 239th French player and 14th junior 1, he will start next season to challenge N1 players. “The best way to continue to progress,” explains the neo-Breton, who will take his baccalaureate next year in Quimperlé, where he “appreciates the environment and the club”. His teammates praise “his explosiveness, his good reading of the game and his strong mentality”. “At his young age, he still has plenty of room for improvement,” promises Jérôme Aubert. To be measured again this Sunday at Lanester, where he is entered in the doubles tournament alongside Thomas Jourdren (Trégunc).
