At 25 years old and after two seasons on the banks of Maine, Yan Valery returned to England, where he had spent seven seasons, with Southampton. The player trained in Rennes then joined the SCO, in the summer of 2022, on the advice in particular of Sofiane Boufal, who also passed through Southampton. In total, Valery has accumulated 65 matches (5 assists) under the Angevin colors. He generally suffered during his Ligue 1 season, before flourishing more in Ligue 2.

Three right-backs still under contract

The player had several times announced his desire to return to England, his partner’s country where he seemed to have flourished more than in France.

His departure does not completely depopulate the right flank of the Angevin defense, which still has three players under contract likely to occupy this position: Abdoulaye Bamba, used only in the axis last season, Lilian Raolisoa, more often called upon to play in the midfielder, and Halid Sabanovic, back from loan from Valenciennes but who should not be part of Angevin’s plans. The leaders of the SCO should therefore try to find a replacement for Valery to meet the demands of Ligue 1.

The promoted should recover a transfer fee for a player who was still under contract until June 2026. The amount has not been filtered.
