Olympic Day 2024 – Open Sport Lyon. This is the name of the event which will bring life to Place Bellecour in the capital of Gaul throughout the day this Sunday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This, on the occasion of World Olympic Day, celebrated every June 23 since 1948.

More than 30 sports clubs present

Many sports will be represented on Lyon’s most iconic square. Visitors will be able to try boxing, hockey, judo and even gymnastics. More original sports will also be highlighted such as tchoukball, wheelchair basketball and Quidditch.

It is important to note that this “sports festival is free and open to all audiences. It is accessible regardless of the age or physical condition of the person,” specifies the City of Lyon in a press release.

The Metropolis of Lyon will also be there since it will offer the finals of the Metropolitan Games with the best basketball, rugby tag, soft volleyball and women’s football teams in its territory.

Nearly 15,000 visitors expected

The Lyon Sports Office and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Olympic and Sports Committee are the organizers of this sports day. For its part, the City of Lyon is providing financial aid of nearly 35,000 euros and logistical support.

The organizers are looking for volunteers to help run the event.

Already last year, this event attracted a lot of people: no less than 10,000 visitors came. This year, the City of Lyon hopes that nearly 15,000 people will come for this 100% sports day.
