After a heatwave, change of atmosphere in the province! The first week of vacation promises to be a rollercoaster ride in Quebec. Forecast.

A week that oscillates between good and bad weather

From June 22 to June 28, in southern Quebec, the sky will alternate between clouds and sun due to a succession of troughs and crests typical of an undulating jet stream. This will cause the passage of systems which will leave clouds and rain.

In terms of temperatures, the thermometer will oscillate below and above the seasonal normal which is 25°C. The mercury could even drop to the 20°C mark by the middle of next week. For the long weekend of July 1st, however, the good weather is likely to be there.

LONG TERM3

An unstable atmospheric context

After this week’s heatwave from June 17 to 21, no clear trend is emerging in the models. The atmospheric context will allow warm air to rise towards the province, but also bring cold air down to Quebec. It is this meeting of air masses having two distinct natures which should cause instability and therefore storms at times.

LONG TERM1

“The contrast of air masses will generate showers and thunderstorms. The situation will need to be monitored between now and the beginning of July,” said Bertin Ossonon, meteorologist.

LONG TERM4

This succession of troughs and crests should continue until the first week of July.

LONG TERM2

Note, however, that according to long-term forecasts, the summer of 2024 should be particularly hot.
