The sporting project is taking shape in Aubagne, which achieved a feat by reaching the National at the end of the 2023-2024 season. The merger is now official, as evidenced by the new jerseys displaying the blue coat of arms with the inscription “Sporting Aubagne Air Bel Huveaune”. The club also found its new coach in the person of Maxence Flachez, former professional player, then consultant for OL and coach. Without a club last season, at the age of 51, he returned to the Aubagne region, which he knows well having played with Olympique de Marseille there.

« From the moment Mohamed Sadani left the club, it caught my attention », returns Flachez. « I asked to be received, the connection flowed, the managers understood my philosophy. I felt that they wanted to move forward as one man, I felt a lot of frankness, a lot of simplicity. » Born in Grenoble, Flachez evolved as a central defender, starting at OL and passing through Martigues, Sochaux, Guingamp, among others, before ending his career at the age of 37 to become a consultant on the OL channel. « Commenting, saying it’s good, it’s not good, I got a little tired of judging the players “, he admits.

A desire to transmit

« I wanted to return to the field and pass on to young people what I had been given. » He then obtained his coaching diplomas and took the reins of the Lyon U19s, leading the junior team to the final of the Gambardella Cup in 2015. He then coached the Olympique Lyonnais reserve team in the CFA for two seasons before join Montreal in Major League Soccer, then Olympique de Marseille as assistant coach in 2019.

In February 2021, André Villas-Boas resigned, Flachez worked with the Marseille first team alongside Nasser Larguet and Philippe Anziani for nine matches. He will then become head coach of the reserves. « Beautiful years that made me grow and become the man, the coach that I am today »he confides. He will subsequently join Châteauroux during the 2022-2023 offseason to become Mathieu Chabert’s assistant, currently on the list of favorites to coach FC Martigues. La Berri having separated from the latter, Flachez was promoted to head coach and allowed the club to maintain itself. Not renewed, he leaves the field for a year. A true enthusiast, it is therefore with great desire and pride that he returns to the new Aubagnais project. “ Today I am lucky to have a project like Aubagne, which wants to evolve and grow, I want to grow with this club and give it everything », he confides, ready to start, with a first training session on the 1stis July.
