A 19-year-old German man was sitting on a bench at Zurich Central Station on Saturday shortly before 11:30 p.m. when he was approached by a stranger. The latter lured her in front of the closed doors of a brasserie located on the south side of the station. The man then overpowered his young victim, before sexually assaulting her. Police are searching for the suspected rapist.

When contacted, the owner of the brewery did not notice anything innocuous on the evening of the attack. His restaurant usually closes at 11:30 p.m. on Saturdays, but “there were particularly few customers that day,” he confides. That’s why the brewery closed early.” Even if his restaurant had nothing to do with it, he admits to being shocked when he learned what had happened: “I find it tragic and regrettable that people are harassed in public spaces.”

Not far from where the attack was committed there is a taxi rank. The drivers didn’t notice anything extraordinary on Saturday evening either. One of them only said that “a lot of people were passing through the station because there was Pride this weekend.”

“We are still looking for possible witnesses who can provide information on the case,” says Michael Walker, spokesperson for the Zurich police. The cantonal authorities are looking for a man around 1.80 m tall, in his early thirties and of southern appearance. The alleged rapist has short, dark brown hair, green eyes and a muscular build. Anyone who may have information regarding the attacker is asked to contact the Zurich cantonal police.
