Candidate flash to the post of Prime Minister for the New Popular Front after the dissolution of June 2024, Lucie Castets made an express visit to Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, in the suburbs of Bordeaux, this Thursday, November 14, to the health center Cynthia-Fleury, a medical center created by the municipality in the fall of 2023. In the minefield of politics, especially after the investiture for a partial legislative in Isère was refused to her by La France insoumise, she says she prefers the ground itself. “That’s always where we find solutions,” she explains.
Flanked by deputies Loïc Prud'homme (LFI) and Nicolas Thierry (EELV), Lucie Castets was welcomed with open arms by PS mayor Stéphane Delpeyrat-Vincent, at the origin of this new type of medical center: the seven general practitioners are in fact employees of the municipality, to deal with the difficulties of access to care. It also offers a radiology service and soon a dental practice under an associative regime. He quickly found his patient base in Saint-Médard and beyond, in several neighboring towns.
“Local public interest”
“This is exactly what we would have done if we had been in business, relying on local experiences that work,” she said. I am very impressed by this center, the local projects that we can observe on the ground are often a source of inspiration and too little known by national decision-makers, including state executives. It responds to local public interest, health is the number one subject for the French, far ahead of security or immigration. I hope that, once we come to power, we will be able to deploy them everywhere in France, because it is exemplary. »
“I have no personal perspectives, what I want is for the left to win in 2027”
With all her enthusiasm, she even wished “long life to this Saint-Médard hospital center”, causing general hilarity. “Not yet, not yet!” » said Stéphane Delpeyrat-Vincent. Since her summer appearance on the political scene, Lucie Castets has been trying to plow her furrow. “I have no personal perspectives, what I want is for the left to win in 2027. I will take part in it on my own scale. There are lots of ways to contribute to it, above all you have to work on the substance, go all over France to see people who are doing things on the ground. The left has a lot of keys in hand, these keys must be able to open the same safe! It's not easy, everyone must contribute. »
This trip on the theme of health had been on her agenda for several weeks, she says. “There is a strong contrast between government policy, with a total lack of vision regarding health, and local initiatives which directly respond to changing needs. In the public hospital, we have poorly paid people who work in deplorable conditions: they leave the hospital, beds are closed. There are developments in the state of health of French people and healthcare workers that the State does not want to take into account. »
