On October 26, the life of a young Ruthenian woman was turned upside down, report our colleagues from The Dispatch. Like every day, around six in the morning, she leaves on foot to go to her workplace. The streets of Rodez (Aveyron) are still asleep, but the woman feels followed. Indeed, behind her, a young man follows her discreetly.
The latter ends up attacking and raping her on the sidewalk of Avenue de Paris. The young woman's muffled cries will not alert local residents. Trapped, her ordeal ends thanks to the heroic intervention of a motorist who puts the attacker to flight.
The man was barefoot
The latter, aged 22, was found last week. Originally from Mayotte, he has lived and worked in Rodez for two years. On the day of the incident, surveillance cameras and testimonies indicate that the wanted man, of medium height and heavy build, was barefoot. This detail is crucial, because a patrol had dealt with the same profile a few weeks earlier. The identity check, carried out that day, made it possible to identify the suspect.
He offered no resistance during his arrest. His version of the facts is vague. Before the investigating judge, he claimed to have acted under the influence of alcohol. He was placed in the Druelle remand center pending his trial. DNA analyzes are underway to find out if the young man is not linked to other cases. He faces twenty years of criminal imprisonment.
