A 79-year-old Englishman learns he is adopted while renewing his residence permit

Living in Porte-du-Quercy (Lot) for thirty-six years, an Englishman had a strange surprise when he went to renew his residence permit in 2019, a mandatory procedure since Brexit. As indicated by our colleagues from The Dispatchthe man had to provide several documents, including a full birth certificate.

He then contacted the English civil status services to obtain the correct document. It was at this moment that he was told that he was adopted, information that had never been communicated to him before, not even during his marriage.

A DNA test that reveals the truth

When he receives the complete birth certificate, the septuagenarian discovers the name of his biological mother and learns that she has died. Far from being discouraged, he decided to take a DNA test in the United States in order to find members of his family. And it works since he finds a nephew's daughter.

A discovery that will allow him to rewind the reel of his life. The man learned that his mother had entrusted him to her own sister in April 1945 so that she could place him for adoption. But the good news is that his biological mother had two more children. Two girls and two boys. Over time, the man who will soon celebrate his 80th birthday has formed strong bonds with one of his brothers and one of his sisters whom he sees as often as possible.
