A rally against anti-Semitism this Friday in Toulouse after the Courbevoie drama

A rally against anti-Semitism is organized this Friday June 21 at noon at Place Saint-Etienne in Toulouse. The Toulouse branch of CRIF, the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France, calls for mobilization to condemn the rape of a 12-year-old girl which occurred last Saturday in Courbevoie in Hauts-de-Seine. Two 13-year-old teenagers were indicted and imprisoned on Tuesday for gang rape, death threats, insults and anti-Semitic violence.

The CRIF Toulouse-Occitanie denounces an act of barbarism and evokes “a climate of anti-Semitism which has raged in France for too long”. Anti-Semitic acts soared in France in the first quarter of 2024, with “366 anti-Semitic acts” recorded between January and March, up 300% compared to the first three months of 2023.

The mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc will participate in this gathering, he announced on social networks this Thursday evening: “Faced with the horror of rape and anti-Semitic violence suffered by a 12-year-old child in Courbevoie, let’s meet tomorrow, Friday June 21 at 12 p.m., Place Saint Etienne, to reaffirm our rejection of anti-Semitism.”

Several hundred people gathered Thursday evening in Paris at the call of several associations, including SOS Racisme and the Women’s Foundation to denounce anti-Semitism.
