(Ecofin Agency) – Morocco continues to implement a master plan to better interconnect all of its regions. According to the World Bank, its road network is approximately 60,000 km long and is one of the densest and most modern in Africa.

In 2023, Morocco will build 750 km of roads for a total cost of 3.2 billion dirhams (321.2 million USD), according to the Ministry of Equipment and Water. These funds made it possible to build, among other things, several sections of express roads, highways, bridges and technical installations.

These projects are part of a vast development program for the Moroccan road network intended to facilitate trade and open up the country’s rural areas.

By 2035, the government plans to upgrade 7,000 km of national roads, 2,000 km of expressways and 45,000 km of rural roads, at a rate of 2,000 km per year of renovated roads. The highway master plan provides for the construction of 1,700 km to reach 3,500 km by the indicated horizon.

According to data from the Ministry of Equipment based on a study carried out in 2020, approximately 62.7% of the national road network is in good condition, with an improvement rate of 9.2% compared to 2012. .
