Ten days before the first round of the early legislative elections, several hundred people demonstrated against the National Rally this Thursday, in Marseille, at the call of the CGT.

Several hundred people demonstrated this Thursday morning in the city center of Marseille at the call of the CGT which has just given (at national level) precise voting instructions for the first time in its history, in favor of the New Front Popular. “Workers need to be heard more than ever“, specifies the head of the procession.

Marine, 27, took to the streets to “avoid the arrival of the far right in power, if we do not do it now, afterwards, it will be too late”. Under a sign that says “My France is not theirs”, covering the song by rapper Diam’s, the young woman explains: “she said it in 2005 and that’s exactly what is happening, it’s not France, not a state that I want to defend.”

“Popular front against Fascism,” Eva wrote on the sign she wears around her neck. “If the RN passes, there will no longer be any possibilities for freedom of expression, believes the young woman, employed in international cooperation in the cultural sector, we have already seen in the past, and in our country, that once the extreme right is in power, it blocks rights for everyone.” She wants to convince people of the importance of going to vote, because “every voice counts”.

No sign for Jean-Édouard, who demonstrates in music with his trombone/ But he shares the same fears for the future. “It scares me because every time the National Front has taken power it has ended very badly for everyone.”

“Extreme right ideas will never be on the side of the workers” states a large banner in the procession, where different non-cultural sectors are also represented to carry social demands. Ten days before the early legislative elections, the CGT is calling for a vote for the Popular Front to defend social progress.

Olivier Mateu, the general secretary of the UD CGT 13, refers Emmanuel Macron and Jordan Bardella back to back, “the original and the copy”. According to him, voters must mobilize to “send people to the Assembly who are very clearly committed to doing something other than what has been done until now.” Without giving a blank check to “a majority that claims to be progressive”. “We must learn the lessons of the past, that everyone remains at their combat post and above all that we no longer let anyone decide for us.”

Saturday June 15, between 12,000 and 80,000 people had already demonstrated in Marseille, the call from unions, associations and the New Popular Front, the alliance of the main left-wing parties. Other mobilizations are announced between now and the first round of voting in the early legislative elections, on June 30.
