Weather: storms in the mountains and heavy rain, the first day of summer is very contrasting in the Hautes-Pyrénées

The start of summer is marked by very capricious weather above the Hautes-Pyrénées with storms in the mountains and heavy rain in the plains.

This Thursday, June 20 marks the “official” start of summer, however, it will have escaped no one’s attention, the day of the summer solstice only has the name. Since this morning, the weather has been very rainy throughout the Hautes-Pyrénées.

The day before, while violent storms raged in Haute-Garonne and along the Atlantic coast, the Bigorre seemed to pass through the raindrops. Catch-up session this Thursday with rain which has not stopped falling since daybreak and which is expected all day, particularly in Tarbes.

In the mountains, the situation is much more degraded, with storms in the morning, around sixty lightning strikes streaked the sky between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., mainly above Estaing, Arrens-Marsous and Gèdre. Hail falls were even recorded in Gavarnie.

For its part, La Chaîne Météo forecasts thunderstorms and rain throughout the day, even placing the department under orange alert for thunderstorms, where Météo France maintains a yellow alert. A lull still seems to be taking shape at the start of the evening, particularly towards Tarbes, before an increase in rain during the night.

Change to RED flood alert in Mayenne and Maine-et-Loire, due to new very rainy storms on saturated soils during the afternoon and evening of this Thursday.
