Before the European institutions in Brussels, Belgian farmers gave weight to Michel Barnier's arguments. Like their French counterparts who are preparing their mobilization, they demonstrated their opposition to the European Union's proposed free trade agreement with the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay). The French Prime Minister, back at the headquarters of the Commission – where he served as commissioner and then Brexit negotiator for almost fifteen years – intended to convey the same message of France's resolute hostility to this text.
