An individual was filmed throwing packages towards Bruges prison with a slingshot, under the lens of surveillance cameras. The authorities reacted quickly and are strengthening security measures.
An unusual scene was captured by cameras at Bruges prison: a man, equipped with a sort of very large slingshot, was catapulting packages over the wall of the establishment. “Staff noticed it through surveillance cameras and alerted the police”said Kathleen Van De Vijver, spokesperson for the penitentiary establishments. The footage, filmed last week from a moving car, shows a man sending packages over walls.
Without being disturbed by the movement of the vehicle or the presence of passers-by, the individual continued his action even when a cyclist passed near him. According to Kathleen Van De Vijver, “the police were notified immediately afterwards”. “Staff noticed on surveillance cameras that someone had stopped in front of the wall”.
Enhanced security measures
Faced with such delivery attempts, Bruges Prison has taken additional measures to prevent these incidents. “We have taken this sort of thing very seriously for some time. Additional patrols were also carried out subsequently”adds Kathleen Van De Vijver. As for the contents of the packages, she specifies that “this is part of the investigation” and this information cannot be disclosed at this time.
