A little boy was hit by a school bus, as several children who were inside the vehicle looked on, Wednesday morning, reported Global News.

The tragedy took place in a residential area of ​​Kleinburg, in the town of Vaughan, Ontario, York Regional Police said.

Officer James Patrick Dickson confirmed to media at the scene that the child had very serious injuries and was in critical condition.

He ultimately died a few minutes after the incident, according to a short police report published on X.

“It’s very, very sad,” a neighbor who lives in the area told the Canadian media. As a mother, I’ve lived here for five years and this has never happened before. It breaks my heart.”

She did not witness the accident.

Authorities don’t know how the boy was hit by the bus.

Officer Dickson explained that the school bus was traveling down the street to bring students to school, but he does not know how many children were inside. The bus driver cooperated with authorities.

The victim’s parents have not confirmed whether he will sue the driver or not.
