Like every year as Christmas approaches, firefighters from all over are preparing to approach residents to sell their famous calendar. A tradition that comes with its share of scams, with many scammers taking advantage of the opportunity to try to trap their victims.

To combat this phenomenon, the Treffieux barracks (-Atlantique) decided to carry out prevention by raising awareness among the population on Facebook on Monday November 11, 2024, reports The Pathfinder.

A receipt in exchange for the donation

The fire fighters first remind the public that the canvassing firefighters “must wear their uniform and the departmental crest”. In addition, they will never impose any amount to be paid since “the gift is free”. They specify in this respect that this amount will be “donated to the emergency center association of your municipality”. Finally, the Treffieux barracks insists on the fact that real firefighters will always offer you a receipt in exchange for your donation.

If these elements are not met, it is advisable not to give money, to return home and notify the authorities. As a reminder, usurpers generally act in pairs. One of the fake firefighters occupies the victim while the other burglarizes their house, usually after asking to go to the bathroom.
