TV rights: Canal+ goes crazy and cancels everything!

Thanks to the forcing of CVC, financial partner of the League, Vincent Labrune and Maxime Saada had planned to see each other. But the president of Canal+ stopped everything suddenly.

In the lengthy issue of French football TV rights, there is often talk of the slight concern of the French clubs, who do not seem too concerned by this situation which still weighs on budgets and future income. The rare speeches (Nicollin, Caillot) are mainly to inflame the situation and spit on Canal+, which clearly does not help things move forward. On the other hand, confidence is maintained in Vincent Labrune with two months remaining before the start of the championship. And that Canal+ still does not wish to return to the charge, despite its vital and central importance on all issues. There is, however, one interested partner who has sounded the alarm, and that is HVAC. The investment fund has bet big on French football, and must recover 13% of future TV rights. Suffice to say that seeing this situation drag on and go straight into the wall is disturbing to one of the largest investment funds in the world. This is why the Luxembourg company took the lead in convincing Maxime Saada to agree to finally meet Vincent Labrune.

Labrune’s interview does not go through

Everything therefore seemed to be working out this Tuesday afternoon, before the president of Canal+ became aware, almost simultaneously, of the interview with Vincent Labrune in Le Monde. An interview in which the boss of the LFP rubbed salt in the wound, notably implying that Canal+ had not made the effort to take all the matches after the Mediapro fiasco, thus allowing Amazon to recover 80% of the matches At a reduced price. An interview, certainly carried out a week earlier, which made Maxime Saada jump and caused the cancellation of the planned meeting, Canal+ still having a lot of difficulty publicly digesting this episode, and even more so the speeches for recall what is strongly contested by the encrypted channel. According to L’Equipe, Vincent Labrune would have been surprised by Canal+’s decision to cancel this meeting, believing on the contrary to have reached out to Vincent Bolloré’s channel.

In any case, the message did not get through at all in this sense, and there is now a new cooling off between all parties concerned. CVC’s efforts have therefore not been successful, while the League is obliged to move forward with its project of a 100% Ligue 1 channel at 25 euros per month.
