The crossing of the harbor, relaunched with conviction by the UDC

The UDC wants to relaunch the idea of crossing the harbor. The party will submit a constitutional initiative to this effect. Gathered in a General Assembly, the members of the UDC validated the idea of a tunnel connecting the Place des Nations to Malagnou.

The idea is based on a clear observation according to Lionel Dugerdil: “There is nothing that works, it is a need that is becoming urgent”. Crossing the harbor is therefore a necessity for the Geneva economy and mobility, according to the president of the UDC Geneva.

We decided to table a bill “to apply coherent and balanced mobility […] “This is the only way to be able to manage this situation,” explains Lionel Dugerdil. The project aims to separate flows and modes of transport, without favoring one over another. Each flow would have its own axes.

Advancing a sea serpent

For the president of the UDC Geneva, this bill and this constitutional initiative has a significant advantage: “not being dogmatic”. “At some point you have to see a little further and be consistent,” summarizes Lionel Dugerdil.

The agrarian project project has not yet been finalized, but it plans to connect Place des Nations and Malagnou by a tunnel. A loop with the Léman Express would be completely “playable and useful”, says Lionel Dugerdil.

Many political parties have already tackled this famous crossing of the harbour… without success. The UDC Geneva wants to change the situation. “We are convinced by this project, me first!” chants the Genevan. “I am convinced that it will pass the ramp, not only of signatures, but then of votes” predicts Lionel Dugerdil. A crossing that could go quickly. The UDC aims to bring this project to fruition quickly and hopes to see it completed by the end of the 2030s.
