Four people in difficulty at sea off the coast of Barfleur (Manche) were saved on Monday November 11 by rescue teams from the French Navy and the SNSM. They were all taken to hospital.

The boat had been adrift for several days off the coast according to information communicated by the Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea.

Alerted to this makeshift motorized boat in difficulty in the open sea on Monday, November 11, the regional operational surveillance and rescue center (CROSS) Jobourg diverted a helicopter from the French Navy, on a training flight in the area, as well as a rescue shuttle from the SNSM of Barfleur to help boaters.

A doctor from the Querqueville army health service was airlifted aboard the sinking boat to carry out a health check on the occupants.

Three injuries were reported according to the rescuers' assessment. Two of them were in a state of absolute emergency, their vital prognosis was in jeopardy.

Due to concerns about their state of health, the three victims were transported by helicopter to the Pasteur university hospital center in Cherbourg for medical treatment.

The fourth person, picked up by the SNSM lifeboat and dropped off at the dock, was also hospitalized in Cherbourg.

The Cherbourg public prosecutor, alerted of this rescue, specifies that “as soon as the interested parties can be heard, it will be necessary in particular to establish their identity, their origins and nationality but also to clarify the exact circumstances of their crossing..

An investigation procedure was opened and entrusted to the maritime gendarmerie and border police services.
