The Mère et Fille café, in Céaux, is the first member of the “1,000 cafés” network in the Channel. It opened its doors on Tuesday November 5, 2024 to the nearly 440 inhabitants of the village, the opportunity for them to get together, to familiarize themselves with the place and to get to know the managers, Isabelle Mension-Rigau and Angélique Septier.
The project of a mother and her daughter
In addition to the classic services of a café-restaurant, the establishment will offer a tea room area as well as a grocery store area which will honor local producers, a bread store and tobacco repairs.
It was the mayor, Christophe Hernot, who submitted the municipality's application to the “1,000 cafés” initiative in January 2021, a year after the closure of the last business. Mother and Daughter has also moved into its premises, renovated by the municipality with the participation of residents mobilized behind this project to recreate a living space in the heart of their village.
The “1,000 cafes” program
supported the municipality and enabled the recruitment of this mother-daughter pair (as highlighted by the name of the café) who knows the region well.

: The “1,000 cafés” program accompanies, supports and brings together multi-service cafés in municipalities with less than 3,500 inhabitants. What they have in common: being the only café in the village, offering different services and concretely involving elected officials and residents in their daily lives.Follow all the news from your favorite cities and media by subscribing to Mon Actu.
