a man fatally stabbed in the center of

A man was fatally stabbed this Tuesday, November 12 in (Ille-et-Vilaine), a police source and the city prosecutor's office told CNEWS. An investigation has been opened.

This Tuesday, November 12, a man, whose age and identity have not been revealed, was stabbed in Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine, CNEWS learned early in the afternoon from a police source and of the parquet. The victim succumbed to his injuries and died.

The Rennes public prosecutor's office indicates that it has opened an investigation following this tragedy which has entrusted it to the organized and specialized crime division (DCOS). For now, this has only just begun and the motive for this knife attack is not yet known.

The public prosecutor specifies that the victim would not be an educator. “The identity and age of the attacker are not known,” he added.

An excess of violence for several years

The “Breton capital” has recorded, for years, an outbreak of intentional assault and battery. According to figures from the Ministerial Statistical Service of the Ministry of the Interior, the Breton city observed 1,008 “voluntary” acts of violence during 2016.

But, from 2020 onwards, things took a different turn and insecurity only increased. At the time, the police noted 1,144 acts of intentional assault and battery in Rennes.

Although this figure will be revised downward in 2021, perhaps due to the increase in the number of police officers recruited in the city between 2020 and 2021, violence resumed in 2022.

During that year, the police noted 1,333 acts of assault and battery. A year later, in 2023, this same figure has, once again, increased, approaching the mark of 1,400 recorded facts.

As a reminder, intentional assault and battery is defined as “violence intentionally inflicted on a person. This means that the perpetrator deliberately sought to injure his victim, even if the act was not premeditated,” we can read on the Public Service website.
