A 43-year-old man was arrested on Monday, November 11 shortly before 7 p.m., suspected of having vandalized the stele in tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks located on the square in front of the Saint-Charles station in Marseille, franceinfo learned on Tuesday from a close source of the file. This source adds that this man, in an irregular situation, is known to the courts, he has been placed in police custody.
Contacted by franceinfo, the Marseille prosecutor's office indicates that an investigation has been opened on the grounds of “deterioration by fire and theft during a meeting”. The main plate was removed from its support, the French flag was scratched and the plastic on the top of the base was burned and partially melted.
On this square, Mauranne and her cousin Laura, two young women, were stabbed to death in 2017. Another plaque pays tribute to them elsewhere on the site. One of the families said they were very shocked at the microphone of France Bleu Provence.
