Legislative elections 2024: at the headquarters of the Republicans of Gard, the “values right” presents its candidates

Six candidates presented, for a right which puts the RN and the Popular Front back to back.

At the headquarters of the Republicans of Gard, Franck Proust, boss of the Agglo and secretary of the LR, looks serious. “It is no coincidence that we are organizing this press conference today. It is June 18, the anniversary of General de Gaulle’s appeal. Do you see these portraits? (he shows journalists the photos of presidents De Gaulle, Pompidou, Chirac, Sarkozy hanging on the wall). It’s the right, the real right. This Republican right, this right of values. It is this right that our six candidates will support.” At his side, Jean-Paul Fournier, the mayor of Nîmes, Richard Tibérino, the president of LR and most of the candidates from the six constituencies of Gard.

Before giving them the floor, Richard Tibérino provides an update: “I was very close to Eric Ciotti. I shared his values of a right without taboos. But he said that there would be no porosity with the extreme right. He betrayed us, he he betrayed. We were among the first, with Franck Proust and Jean-Paul Fournier, to condemn his alliance with the RN. But I condemn with the same force the left, which allied itself with LFI. outside the Republican field. For me, it’s a choice between the plague and cholera!” Jean-Paul Fournier is on the same line, “surprised by this New Popular Front” where we even find “François Hollande, a former President of the Republic, as a candidate (…) It’s nonsense.”

In Gard, therefore, six LR candidates are leaving for the Front. Respectively Loumy Bourghol on 1st (replacing Franck Lasalle): “I was born a Republican and I will die a Republican, explains this stylist of Romanian origin. There is no forest without a dry tree and the dry tree has been eliminated.”

Finally, on the 6th, Clément Stevant, 23 years old, advisor to elected officials in Nîmes métropole (alternate Elham Outmani) does not want either “leap into the unknown with the RN”, nor of “project by Jean-Luc Melenchon, which flirts with Islamism”.

Since 2012, there has been no traditional right-wing MP in Gard. What would mean that, this time, the candidates presented by the Gaullist party would be elected? “The situationexplains Franck Proust. I think you’re going to have a start. (…) Between the extremes and Macron’s “And at the same time”, we embody the 3rd voice.”
