Gard: when Tuesday rhymes with philosophy… Great start for the 2024 baccalaureate! – News

This year, 50,405 first and final year students from the Montpellier academy embarked on the adventure of the 2024 baccalaureate. Some 28,859 final year students took the final exams! This Tuesday morning, time for the often dreaded test, philosophy!

In Gard, the candidates are distributed as follows: 3,625 students for the general baccalaureate, 1,675 for the technological baccalaureate, and 2,096 for the professional baccalaureate.

The baccalaureate, reformed a few years ago, is now based on a continuous assessment system which accounts for 40% of the final grade. This continuous assessment takes into account the results in class during the final cycle for compulsory and optional courses which are not subject to final tests. The final exams represent 60% of the final grade and include two specialty exams, philosophy and the Grand Oral. If necessary, students can take remedial oral exams or control tests.

In general, one of the major tests is in fact the Grand Oral. This test, which assesses essential skills such as speech and the ability to argue, is based on the presentation of a project prepared from first grade. Students must demonstrate their conviction and their ability to adopt a critical distance from their project.

The exam schedule is busy. After the anticipated written French tests on June 14, Gard high school students are taking the philosophy test today. The specialty written tests will take place on June 19, 20 and 21. As for the Grand oral, it will take place from June 24 to July 3. The publication of the results is scheduled for July 8, followed by the make-up tests from July 9 to 11.

Last year, the success rate in the Montpellier academy was 96.1% for the general route and 91.2% for the technological route. This year’s students hope to maintain or even surpass these results!

Good luck to all candidates for the 2024 baccalaureate!
