Tarn-et-Garonne: a septuagenarian, missing after going to pick mushrooms, found in a ditch

In extremis. A 77-year-old man, who went alone to pick mushrooms in the forest near Saint-Nazaire-de-Valentane (Tarn-et-Garonne) this Sunday and has been missing since, was found several hours later in a ditch by the local gendarmerie , report our colleagues from La Dépêche du Midi. He was immediately transferred to hospital.

It was his son, worried about not hearing from him, who first went looking for him on Sunday afternoon. But the septuagenarian is nowhere to be found. He then decides to notify the emergency services who are canvassing the area.

Problem: investigators cannot geolocate the missing man, the latter not having taken his cell phone before leaving his home. A dog team as well as a drone with a thermal camera were then mobilized to help the first responders on site, who were struggling to get their hands on the septuagenarian.

The 77-year-old man was finally found several hours after his disappearance, in a ditch. According to our colleagues, he was “exhausted and probably freezing” when emergency services evacuated him. He was rushed to hospital.
