In Senegal, medical interns and former hospital interns will undergo a work stoppage from November 14 until December 30, 2024. This strike notice, announced by the Association of Interns and Former Interns of Hospitals of Senegal (AIAIHS), arises following demands left unanswered, according to the collective.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health and Social Action, the interns express their frustration at what they consider to be a lack of dialogue on questions crucial to their future. “(…)the last step dates back to October 19. But in the absence of a response, we are forced to begin this movement,” we read in the AIAIHS note.
The interns are requesting in particular a review of their status, in accordance with the conclusions of the 2019 conference, as well as a professional integration strategy to address the challenges of their training. For AIAIHS, the lack of a plan for their post-internship integration creates uncertainty about their future in the medical sector.
The collective also calls for the harmonization of their compensation system with that of other ministry agents, a long-standing promise revised in 2022 but which has still not been applied.
Accommodation conditions are also among the priorities of interns. Fann’s place
Finally, the strikers demand a review of the boarding school competition program.
