Weather Paris: violent storms and hail this week due to a “cold drop”

A few days before the fateful date of June 21, aka the official day of summer, the sun is still desired in Île-de-France. The last few weeks have been particularly marked by bad weather, with chain of disturbances and significant precipitation which leave little room for the sun.

Shy sunshine, temperatures below average

Weather records show insufficient sunshine since February. For example, the Paris-Montsouris station recorded only 160 hours of sunshine in May, compared to a normal of 201 hours. In June, only 116 hours of sunshine have been recorded so far, far from the usual 203.5 hours.

The beginning of this month of June also turned out to be cooler than usual. Temperatures were lower than seasonal averages across the entire national territory, around one degree below climatological normals.

After the storm, the good weather

This week, a cold drop is expected, characterized by the presence of very cold air at altitude. When it encounters warmer soils, it generates thunderstorms. The first storms could begin Tuesday morning, with the entire Paris region which will be affected by a stormy episode which may be accompanied by hail. The June showers? Météo-France is still forecasting thunderstorms during the night from Thursday to Fridaybefore clearings return for the weekend.

From Sunday, the sun will finally come definitively light up the capital for several days with temperatures above 20°C. Vitamin D is ours, summer is ours!
