Michelin, Volkswagen… In France but also in Europe, employee anger is growing due to a wave of announced and future social plans. How to explain such a situation? Journalist Axel de Tarlé tells you more.
The cost of labor and taxation is heavier in France currently. Two additional difficulties have emerged to explain this: first, environmental standards are stricter. For example, in the name of biodiversity, Michelin has had to ensure the traceability of the rubber it buys, which costs it an additional 150 to 200 million euros. Then the cost of energy exploded. Electricity costs twice as much in France as in the United States, for example, and gas costs five times as much.
Michelin, for example, is a French flagship, which manufactures and sells its tires throughout the world. However, they make a speech to make it clear that in France or in Europe, it is more difficult to produce because we are no longer competitive. Same thing with companies such as Volkswagen in Germany which currently wants to close three factories. We are facing a new wave of deindustrialization.
